SpectroGem Identifies Synthetic and Treated Diamonds

Monday, December 17th, 2007

stone.jpgIsrael Diamond Exchange has joined forces with the European Gemological Laboratory to fight the infiltration of synthetic and treated stones into the natural diamond market. EGL Israel recently launched the EGL SpectroGEM, the first system available in Israel with the ability to identify treated and synthetic stones. EGL invested more than $500,000 into this new system and hopes to boost consumer confidence in the diamond market.

The SpectroGEM, a spectroscopic system which scans the movement of light within a diamond, can determine whether a diamond is natural or synthetic. It determines the light performance of a stone and maps how the stone reflects light waves. Additionally, the SpectroGEM can also determine if a stone has undergone HPHT treatment ( High Pressure, High Temperature). EGL hopes the SpectroGEM will help restore credibility and boost consumer confidence in the diamond market.

Think Pink

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

This ring was actually a rebuild. Our client came to use with a replica Cartier ring that we had designed for another company. It was all white gold and was set with a CZ center stone. What he really wanted was to set a pink tourmaline in the ring, and since we had to make a new head for the larger stone, we went with a rose gold head to really add to the pink color of the tourmaline.

I received the ring today. It is absolutely gorgeous. You and your team did excellent work. I’ll be in touch with you in the next few months once she figures out what kind of bands she would like.

Thanks,
C.G.

John Hardy BambooJohn Hardy is a company that prides itself on protecting the environment. They recently became the first company to offset the carbon emissions resulting from their advertising campaign. John Hardy also implemented a project to plant bamboo on Nusa Penida, a small island off the coast of Bali where the company is located. Not only will this project reduce the amount of CO2, it will also serve as a reforestation project for the island. Additionally, John Hardy will offer bamboo seedlings to local families and educate them on the fundamentals of sustainable cultivation of bamboo and other hardwoods. The reforested area will provide a habitat for the endangered Bali Starling Songbird.

John Hardy’s Bamboo jewelry line offers customers the chance to get involved and plant bamboo. For each piece of jewelry bought from this unique hand crafted line, John Hardy will plant bamboo seedlings on Nusa Penida. The actual number of seedlings planted are engraved onto each piece. The number of seedlings planted depends on the style of the piece and ranges from four to twenty-six. The two largest cuffs in the bamboo line feature a special John Hardy grill. This unique grill depicts the bamboo theme as well as the Bali Starling.
